In a historic first on August 3-4th, 2022, the four Upper Colorado River Commissioners of Utah, Wyoming, Colorado, and New Mexico, state advisors, and UCRC staff members met with Tribal Leaders and advisors of five Upper Colorado River Basin tribal sovereigns in Ignacio, Colorado.
As described by the Southern Ute Indian Tribal Council on their social media presence (embedded below), “The meeting is the first in the history of UCRC, and the Upper Colorado River Basin. The historical occasion brought together the three Ute Tribes (Southern Ute, Ute Mountain Ute Tribe, and the Ute Indian Tribe) and Jicarilla Apache and Navajo Nations. Also in attendance were UCRC members and state representatives from Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming.”
